Jamango! is a browser-native gaming platform that allows anyone to create and play user-generated games instantly. Jamango!'s mission is to unlock imagination and empower people to play, connect and create without barriers.

At Jamango!, I began my role as a Creator Growth Intern. My role entailed:

  • Reached out to potential creators to become part of our Discord community with concise messaging

  • Assessed prospects based on their work within other UGC (User-Generated Content -- Roblox, Fortnite Creative, Scratch etc.) communities on various platforms including Discord and Reddit

  • Provided technical support to members of the community

  • Grew the Discord community by more than 100 members per month alongside the rest of the Creator Growth team

After 3 months, I was promoted to the Marketing Content Coordinator where I:

  • Recorded and edited short form video content for distribution on TikTok and YouTube platforms
  • Scripted and concepted with Notion
  • Storyboarding with Excalidraw
  • Designed setpieces for use within the videos
  • Performed voice over work on all videos
  • Edited and compiled clips into short 7 - 15 seconds videos with Davinci Resolve
  • Created educational and entertainment videos that were posted on a regular basis
  • Adapted video structure based upon trend analysis
  • Chose appropriate hashtags to appear on relevant audiences' devices
  • Used copywriting to post community announcements in the Discord community
  • Organised community events to increase engagement
  • Used Photoshop to create accompanying high-quality assets
  • Worked alongside the Marketing Lead and Founder to create and adapt our content strategies

Towards the end of my tenure at Jamango! I took on responsibilities akin to a game designer role:

  • Concepted and pitched multiple game ideas inspired by the UGC ecosystem

    • In particular, we investigated areas that browser games were not serving to a high-standard and where we could fill the gap

  • Used Excalidraw to break down all possible games

  • Utilised the MDA Framework to produce fun experiences

Working on Jamango! was different to anything else I'd done in the past. I connected really well with the mission the company was trying to accomplish: making game design more accessible to a wider audience. It was a huge leap into a different side of the industry. Coming from a perspective of leading production of a small team to being the cog of a larger team was a fantastic and eye-opening shift. Firstly, the team at Jamango! utilised a sprint workflow, which I resonated with greatly. I worked directly with the founders and the marketing lead to produce high-quality videos that continued to push me to develop my skills when it came to video editing but also taught me how to talk to leadership confidently and openly.

The community of Jamango! was electric and it's something I look back on fondly. Acknowledging and working directly with community members, usually of a younger demographic, taught me a lot about how to present myself to players. It opened my eyes to how players really act, especially in relation to a project that was still closed off to the general public.

Jamango! taught me many things and I'm immensely glad I was able to make an influence on a evergrowing and flourishing community with such a passionate team.
